Spring pipe support

Spring pipe supports use a spring element to maintain reasonable support force between cold and hot pipe conditions. Variable spring hangers change support load as the spring travels through their range; constant support hangers provide nearly uniform load over rated travel and are often applied where load swing or large vertical movement must be limited.

Support selection and arrangement typically reference MSS SP-58, Pipe Hangers and Supports — Materials, Design, Manufacture, Selection, Application, and Installation (2009 edition onward incorporates the former MSS SP-69); some older project specifications still cite MSS SP-69 separately. Project specifications may also cite HG/T 21629 and related atlases where applicable.

Under piping codes such as ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3, supports are integral to flexibility and stress control and must be coordinated with piping, valves and expansion joints.
